Monument to the Glorious Fighters for Soviet Power

Unveiled on May 27, 1969, in Oktyabrsky Park to mark the 50th anniversary of the Bendery armed uprising, this striking monument by architect V.P. Mednek stands 18 meters tall and represents one of the most significant commemorative structures in the city.

The monument is executed in free asymmetrical forms, with two powerful mosaic panels adorning the base on either side, each depicting a different facet of the struggle against Romanian occupiers. One mosaic portrays the participants of the armed uprising led by a banner-bearer carrying the rallying inscription “Power To The Soviets!”, while the companion mosaic captures the tragic shooting of uprising participants. Rising above these mosaics, reinforced concrete planes soar upward in the form of a group of banners facing east — symbolizing the glory and eternal significance of the sacrifice made by those who fought for Soviet power and dreamed of reunification with Russia.

On the day of the monument’s inauguration, distinguished guests and surviving participants of the Bendery uprising planted linden trees along the alley leading from the monument toward the park’s summer stage — trees that continue to grow today, living witnesses to that historic ceremony more than half a century ago.
