Memorial to Fallen Soldiers of the Great Patriotic War, Tashlyk Village

The bed of honor in Tashlyk village holds the remains of 560 soldiers alongside four Heroes of the Soviet Union who perished during the Great Patriotic War — a significant concentration of sacrifice that reflects the intensity of the fighting that took place in this area during the liberation campaign of 1944.

In 2010, the mass grave underwent comprehensive reconstruction, emerging with its current official name: “Memorial to the Fallen Soldiers of the Great Patriotic War in the Village of Tashlyk of the Grigoriopol District.” Today the memorial exists as a complete complex of commemorative objects constructed at various points in time, each element adding another layer of tribute to this sacred site.

The memorial features busts honoring three specific Heroes of the Soviet Union: A.A. Antonov, S.V. Tselykh and I.P. Korobkin, whose individual courage earned them the highest military distinction the Soviet state could bestow. Fifty memorial slabs bearing the names of all soldiers buried in the bed of honor ensure that each fallen individual is remembered by name, while a five-pointed star housing the Eternal Flame burns as a perpetual symbol of remembrance alongside a dedicated granite slab commemorating Hero of the Soviet Union K. Dzharkimbayev.

A monument in the form of the numerals “1944” was installed to mark the 20th anniversary of the village’s liberation from Nazi invaders — a striking and immediately legible tribute to the pivotal year that brought freedom to this community. Completing the ensemble is a granite slab bearing a map of military operations in the area, providing visitors with strategic context for understanding the battles that made this memorial necessary.
