Post Office of Pridnestrovie

The building of the head office of the Post of Pridnestrovie has graced the streets of Tiraspol since the early 1960s, yet the city’s postal history extends far deeper — more than 220 years of continuous service connecting Tiraspol to the wider world.

Previously, the post and telegraph office occupied a beautiful two-story building on what is now 25 Oktyabrya Street — a street that, until 1884, bore the name Pochtovaya (Post) Street, reflecting its role as the postal road linking Tiraspol and Odessa. Regrettably, this original historic building has not survived to the present day.

A significant milestone in the republic’s postal history arrived in 1993, when the first postage stamp of Pridnestrovie entered circulation, carrying a face value of 12 rubles. The stamp depicted the coat of arms of the PMR in dark blue against a blue background — a small but symbolically powerful assertion of the young republic’s independent identity that collectors continue to seek out to this day.
