Suvorov Square stands as the undisputed heart of both Tiraspol and Pridnestrovie itself — the civic and symbolic center around which the capital’s most important landmarks converge. The monument to Alexander Suvorov, the city’s founder, presides over the square, surrounded by an impressive cluster of significant sites: the François Sainte de Wollant Square, the Dniester embankment, the Memorial of Glory, the Youth Creativity Palace, the Tiraspol movie theater and the Supreme Council building all lie within its immediate orbit, making this the single most historically concentrated location in the entire republic.
During the Soviet era, the square bore different names — first the Square of Stalin Constitution, then the Square of Soviet Constitution — before acquiring its current name and its present-day appearance through a massive restructuring of the city center during the 1970s. Today, Suvorov Square hosts military parades on the republic’s most important national holidays, including Victory Day and Republic Day, reaffirming its role as the ceremonial heart of civic life in Tiraspol.
Surrounding the square, the beloved Catherine Park provides a cozy and beautifully designed green space for walking, meeting friends and photography — completing this central ensemble with a living, breathing public garden that draws residents and visitors alike throughout the year.
