- Do I need a visa to visit Transnistria?
No. Visitors do not need to open a visa to enter Transnistria (Pridnestrovie).
- How long can I stay in Transnistria without registering?
Every visitor receives a migration card at the border, valid for up to 45 days. It can be extended repeatedly if you need to stay longer.
- How do I get to Transnistria?
Transnistria is landlocked within Moldova, so entry is only possible through the Republic of Moldova — typically via Chisinau to Tiraspol or Bendery. See our full list of border crossings.
- Is it safe to visit Transnistria?
Yes — Transnistria is a peaceful destination for tourists, and thousands visit every year on organized day trips from Chisinau. Ordinary common-sense precautions apply, and photographing military or government buildings is best avoided.
- What currency is used in Transnistria?
The Transnistrian ruble (PRB), a local currency that cannot be exchanged outside the region. Euros, US dollars, Moldovan lei and Russian rubles can be exchanged for PRB at exchange offices once you arrive.
- Can I pay by card in Transnistria?
Rarely — bring cash. International bank cards are accepted in very few places, and most ATMs will not work with a foreign card.
- Will my phone work in Transnistria?
International and Moldovan roaming is unreliable inside Transnistria. A Moldovan SIM card generally works better than home-country roaming; a local SIM (Interdnestrcom/IDC) is also an option if you are staying longer.
- Do I need a COVID-19 test or vaccination certificate?
No, this is not required to enter Pridnestrovie.
- Can I visit Transnistria on a day trip from Chisinau?
Yes — this is the most common way to visit. A day trip from Chisinau typically covers Tiraspol and Bendery and takes about 8–10 hours round trip.
- What documents do I need at the border?
A valid passport or another identity document proving citizenship of a foreign state. You’ll fill out a migration card on arrival.
- Is Moldova involved in visiting Transnistria?
Yes — since Transnistria is only reachable through Moldova, most visitors also spend time in Chisinau before or after crossing. Many of our tours combine both.
- Are there restrictions for group travel?
Groups of 10 or more people must submit an application to the Ministry of State Security at least 5 working days before arrival, and the group should cross and depart together.
- What if I want to stay longer than 45 days?
The migration card can be extended repeatedly — ask at a local registration point or through your tour operator before it expires.
- Where can I get tourist information once I am in Transnistria?
The Tourist Information Center is in Bendery, at Petr Panin Street 2 (by the entrance to Bendery Fortress), open Tue–Fri 10:30–17:00 and Sat–Sun 10:00–17:00 (closed Mondays). Smaller info points operate in Slobodzeya, Grigoriopol, Dubossary, Rybnitsa and Rashkov.
