Border Crossings into Transnistria
Transnistria can only be entered through the Republic of Moldova — there is currently no open crossing from Ukraine. Below are the checkpoints on the Moldovan side, and the current status of the Ukrainian ones for reference.

Most independent travelers and tour groups cross via Bendery–Chisinau or Bendery–Varnitsa — the most direct routes from the Moldovan capital, and the ones our day trips from Chisinau use.
From Ukraine (temporarily closed)
- Khrustovaya – Bolgan (road)
- Novye Goyany – Platonovo (road)
- Pervomaysk – Kuchurgan (road)
- Tiraspol (rail)
All four Ukraine-side crossings are currently closed. If your route assumed entry from Ukraine, plan to enter via Moldova instead — see Entry Rules & Migration Card for what happens at the checkpoint.
What to expect at the checkpoint
You’ll show your passport, receive and fill out a migration card, and that’s it — no visa, no advance paperwork for individual travelers. Group crossings (10+ people) need advance notice; see the entry rules page for details.
