Stele "City of Military Glory" - Transnistria travel

On June 13, 2012, the President of the PMR bestowed upon Bendery the honorary title of “City of Military Glory,” recognizing the extraordinary courage, perseverance and mass heroism displayed by the city’s defenders throughout their struggle for freedom and independence of the Fatherland. This distinguished title placed Bendery among the most celebrated cities in the republic’s history.

To commemorate this honor and mark the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Stele “City of Military Glory” was unveiled on May 6, 2015. Positioned prominently in front of the Memorial of Commemoration and Sorrow, the monument stands clearly visible to all who enter Bendery, quickly establishing itself as one of the city’s most recognizable architectural landmarks.

The monument’s design is both elegant and deeply symbolic. Four surrounding columns bear historical dates connected to the heroic past of Bendery, while the central stele — a striking column of red granite — is crowned with the coat of arms of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic rendered in cast metal. At its base, a plate carries the full text of the Presidential Decree conferring the “City of Military Glory” status, while the reverse side features the city’s own coat of arms, completing this comprehensive tribute to Bendery’s enduring martial legacy.
