Children’s Music School Named After George Murg & Lenin Monument

The Children’s Music School in Dubossary was established by decision of the executive committee of the Dubossary Council of People’s Deputies on April 15, 1955, with enrollment of the first students beginning that June. The school opened with just four founding teachers — Boris Grigorievich Shekhtman, Pavel Grigorievich Golovko, Mikhail Evgenievich Gutsan and Isai Panteleevich Ginku — and 15 students in its first intake. Boris G. Shekhtman was appointed as the school’s first director.

Opened in the post-war years, the school immediately established itself as a genuine center of cultural life for the city — described by those who experienced it as a breath of clean air and a vital place of cultural development for Dubossary’s citizens. The school was originally housed in a two-story building at 10 Lomonosov Street, operating both a daytime and an evening department to serve students of different ages and schedules.

Today the school bears the name of George Murg, honoring this celebrated figure’s contribution to the musical heritage of the region, and continues its mission of nurturing musical talent among the children of Dubossary — carrying forward nearly seven decades of cultural education that began with those first 15 students and four dedicated teachers in the summer of 1955.
