A private zoo opened in Dubossary in 2010 with the support of local authorities, founded and owned by P. Bielski. Animals were brought here from various regions of Russia, Ukraine and Moldova, creating a diverse collection that has become one of the town’s most popular family attractions.
The majority of the zoo’s residents are birds, with an impressive variety including pheasants, guinea fowls, swans, peacocks, parrots and black ostriches — the latter housed in a specially designed aviary that also allows them to walk in the open air, creating an immediately striking sight for visitors. The zoo is also home to a wide range of mammals including foxes, roe deer, ferrets, Vietnamese pigs and ponies, among others. One of the most beloved and celebrated inhabitants is a brown bear, gifted to the zoo by the Chisinau shapito circus — a gift that has made him something of a local celebrity.
The zoological park encompasses approximately 40 aviaries in total. During the colder months, all thermophilic animals that require warmth are transferred to specially heated pavilions, ensuring their comfort and wellbeing throughout the year.
