Memorial of Military Glory

The Memorial of Military Glory in Rybnitsa was unveiled in 1975, marking the 30th anniversary of the Great Victory with a ceremony befitting the significance of the occasion. The Eternal Flame was lit by Hero of the Soviet Union V.V. Vakharlovsky, while the commemorative ribbon was cut by I.A. Yablonsky, a direct participant in the liberation of Rybnitsa from the Nazi invaders — connecting the memorial’s opening ceremony directly to those who had lived through the events it commemorates.

The memorial complex was designed by architect V.P. Mednek — the same talented architect responsible for several of the most significant memorial and civic structures throughout Pridnestrovie. In a gesture that speaks to genuine community pride, the complex was built entirely with funds earned by workers of the district during subbotniks — voluntary Saturday working days dedicated to this collective act of remembrance.

The memorial’s layout follows an axial composition centered on its most striking architectural element: two paired reinforced concrete pylons rising 24 meters into the sky, shaped to represent palms joined together in prayer — a powerful and immediately moving symbol of both mourning and spiritual invocation. Seventeen memorial plates bearing the names of those who fell during the Great Patriotic War complete this dignified tribute, ensuring that every individual sacrifice is permanently and personally recorded within this important memorial complex.
