Memorial Sign to the Martyrs and Victims of the Rybnitsa Ghetto

On March 30, 2004, marking the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Rybnitsa from German-fascist invaders, a memorial sign was unveiled to honor the martyrs and victims of the Rybnitsa ghetto, which existed from September 1941 until March 30, 1944. During this period, more than 5,000 Jews from Rybnitsa and the surrounding region were killed, with the ghetto serving as a place of systematic persecution and mass murder under the German-Romanian occupation.

Designed by architect S.M. Shoikhet, the memorial is constructed of red brick with slabs of gabbro-marble, crowned by a menorah — a seven-branched candlestick — crafted from stainless steel by workers of the Moldavian Metallurgical Plant. The simple inscription “We Remember” ensures that this dark chapter of the city’s history is never forgotten.
