Moldova Steel Works

Moldova Steel Works stands as one of the most recognizable and celebrated symbols of both Pridnestrovie and its northern capital Rybnitsa — an enterprise whose significance extends far beyond its role as a major industrial facility to become a genuine emblem of the city’s identity and economic foundation.

Founded in 1985, the plant is the flagship of Pridnestrovian heavy industry and metallurgy, and one of the republic’s most important taxpayers. Over more than three decades of continuous operation, the plant has undergone repeated modernization, with state-of-the-art equipment installed throughout to maintain its competitive edge on global markets. Today, more than 2,000 people are employed at Moldova Steel Works — a 100% state-owned enterprise that functions as the true town-forming backbone of Rybnitsa, its fortunes inseparably linked to those of the city itself.

The plant’s heavy-duty electric arc furnace can produce approximately one million tons of liquid steel annually, with the rolling shop turning out angle bar, wire rod, rebar and channel products for markets around the world. Full adherence to production specifications has earned the plant the necessary international quality control certificates, enabling Moldova Steel Works to supply products to the Middle East, Latin America, the European Union, CIS countries and Southeast Asia — a genuinely global industrial footprint originating from this Dniester riverside city.

The plant offers guided excursions that allow visitors to witness firsthand the remarkable transformation of old scrap metal into high-quality steel — one of the most dramatic and impressive industrial processes imaginable. To organize an excursion, contact local travel agency representatives.
