Museum of P.A. Rumyantsev and History of Stroentsy Village

Stroentsy village holds a remarkable distinction as the birthplace of the great Russian commander Pyotr Alexandrovich Rumyantsev, one of the most celebrated military figures of the 18th century. His mother, Countess M.A. Rumyantseva, resided in this village for approximately six months while awaiting the return of her husband, who had traveled to Turkey on a mission for Peter the Great. It was here, on January 15, 1725, that she gave birth to the son who would go on to become a Field Marshal of the Russian Empire and one of its greatest military minds.

A significant portion of the museum’s exposition traces Rumyantsev’s remarkable life path, presenting photographs and photocopies of documents relating to his military career alongside a bust honoring this distinguished Field Marshal. The museum’s second major focus turns to Field Marshal P.Kh. Wittgenstein, whose estate encompassed Stroentsy village throughout the 19th century and who left an equally significant mark on the village’s character and landscape. On a picturesque rocky outcrop in the village, the distinctive “Tower of the Winds” — a monument to Wittgenstein installed by his own daughter — stands as one of the most memorable architectural landmarks in the entire Rybnitsa district.

Within the museum, housed in the village House of Culture, visitors can also explore the broader history of Stroentsy’s founding and development, examining old household items and traditional tools that bring the daily life of past generations vividly to life.
