Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Chobruchi Village

This cruciform church was built during the 1990s through the combined efforts of local residents and village authorities, rising from the community’s collective desire to restore a place of Orthodox worship to Chobruchi after decades without one. Villagers affectionately refer to it as the “New Church,” recognizing it as the spiritual successor to an earlier Church of the Intercession that had stood in Chobruchi since 1809 — before being destroyed by the Bolsheviks during the Soviet anti-religious campaigns that claimed so many historic places of worship throughout the region.

This connection between the destroyed original and its modern successor represents a pattern of religious revival seen throughout Pridnestrovie, as communities worked to restore spiritual continuity following the long interruption of the Soviet era — ensuring that the Intercession tradition in Chobruchi, stretching back more than two centuries, continues to be honored in a living, active place of worship.
