Memorial Sign “Tank Crossing”

The memorial sign “Tank Crossing” stands in Sukleya village near the banks of the Dniester River, dedicated to the Soviet soldiers and local residents who made possible the crossing of Soviet troops to the right bank of the Dniester during the decisive Iasi-Chisinau operation of 1944. The combined courage of military personnel and civilian participants in this crossing contributed meaningfully to one of the most significant military operations that led to the liberation of Pridnestrovie.

The memorial takes the form of a black slab bearing a depiction of the crossing itself, capturing this historic moment in stone for future generations. The site does not contain soldiers’ graves, which are located in the center of the village where a separate monument honors Soviet soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

To mark the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory, the memorial was enriched with additional commemorative elements: a Memory Alley of the 1944 tank crossing was established alongside the monument, an arch was installed at the entrance, and trees were planted — creating a more complete memorial ensemble that honors the memory of this important military episode with appropriate dignity and permanence.
