Parcany Village History Museum

In the empty parental home of Valentina Obruchkova, a remarkable private museum has taken root in the heart of Parcany — the only Bulgarian village in all of Pridnestrovie. Valentina herself describes the museum as a living biography of a settlement, and this description captures perfectly the intimate, personal nature of what she has created: not a formal institution but a genuine act of cultural love and community memory.

Spread across two buildings — the main house and a traditional temporary hut — visitors can discover objects more than 100 years old that speak directly to the lives of Bulgarian families who settled here generations ago. Among the museum’s most treasured rarities are wedding photographs of Bulgarian families, preserving faces and moments from another era. On the wall of one room hangs a family tree compiled by Valentina’s niece, connecting the present generation to its ancestors in tangible visual form.

The museum carries deeper historical significance than it might first appear: Valentina notes that the village of Parcany already appears on the map drawn by General Panin during the storming of the Bendery Fortress in 1770, predating the arrival of the Bulgarian community. The Bulgarians who settled here between 1806 and 1811 brought not only their language, culture, traditions and customs but also, as Obruchkova emphasizes, their psychology and their legendary dedication to hard work. Traditional Bulgarian cuisine — with its rich aromas and distinctive flavors — is particularly close to her heart, with recipes passed faithfully from generation to generation and a genuine wish that descendants will continue to preserve this national culinary heritage.
