Archaeology Museum of Pridnestrovie

The Archaeology Museum of Pridnestrovie opened its doors in 1997 at T.G. Shevchenko State University, established on the foundation of the university’s research laboratory “Archaeology.” It holds the distinction of being the only institution in the region where artifacts from the ancient history of Pridnestrovie — discovered through decades of archaeological excavations — are both exhibited and preserved for future study.

The exhibition takes visitors on a remarkable journey through time, presenting unique artifacts spanning from the Stone Age, some 100,000 years ago, through to the medieval period of the 12th-14th centuries. Tools, weapons and horse equipment, jewelry, cult objects, and examples of both molded and pottery ceramics are all represented, painting a vivid picture of human life along the Dniester across countless millennia. The exposition is further enriched by reconstructions of ancient burials, a display case featuring artificially deformed skulls and traces of trepanation, alongside photographs documenting archaeological research and artistic reconstructions that bring the distant past to life for contemporary visitors.
