Building of the Supreme Council and Government of the PMR

This monumental building, constructed in 1983 for the Tiraspol City Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, stands as one of the most recognizable symbols of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and a defining landmark of the capital’s historical center. A long sweep of marble steps leads up to its impressive facade, the building’s architecture clearly reflecting the design sensibilities of the late Soviet era in every proportion and detail.

Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the building briefly housed a branch of the state university before taking on the historic role it continues to fulfill today: since 1991, it has served as the seat of the Supreme Council — the Parliament of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. For many years, the Administration of the President of the PMR was also based here, and since 2012, the building has additionally housed the Government of the Republic, making it the genuine center of political power in Pridnestrovie.

Standing before the building, visitors inevitably encounter the iconic monument to V.I. Lenin — one of the most recognizable and photographed sights in the entire capital. For tourists, this combination of imposing Soviet-era architecture and the prominent Lenin monument makes this location an essential stop, widely regarded as one of the most vivid living attributes of Pridnestrovie’s distinctive Soviet heritage.
