Monument to Alexander Suvorov

The monument to Alexander Suvorov stands as the defining hallmark of Tiraspol — a powerful expression of gratitude from generations of citizens to the great military commander who founded their city. Unveiled on November 23, 1979, on the eve of the legendary Generalissimo’s birthday celebration, this towering 9-meter bronze statue has presided over the heart of Tiraspol for more than four decades.

The statue was created by brothers Vladimir and Valentin Artamonov, with the overall monument design conceived by architects L. Druzhinin and Yu. Chistyakov — a collaboration that produced what is widely recognized as one of the finest monuments to Suvorov anywhere in the former USSR. This recognition came with distinguished artistic accolades: the monument received the gold medal named after sculptor Yevgeny Vuchetich — creator of the iconic “The Motherland Calls!” sculpture on Mamaev Kurgan in Volgograd — alongside the medal of the USSR Academy of Arts, cementing its place among the most accomplished works of Soviet monumental sculpture.
