Monument to Aviators

This striking obelisk, erected in 1975, honors the pilots of the 17th Air Army who played a decisive role in liberating Tiraspol in 1944 as part of the 3rd Ukrainian Front. A MiG-19 fighter jet mounted dramatically on the memorial pedestal gives the monument its instantly recognizable appearance, the silver aircraft posed as if soaring skyward above the surrounding park. The army was commanded at the time by Lieutenant General V.A. Sudets, who later received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union and rose to the rank of Air Marshal.

Surrounding the monument, Aviators Square extends approximately 100 meters, creating one of the most visited and beloved outdoor spaces in the Oktyabrsky microdistrict. Comfortable benches line the park’s alleys, inviting residents to linger and enjoy the calm atmosphere, while a nearby café and restaurant provide welcome refreshment for those spending time in this pleasant corner of Tiraspol.
