Nativity of Christ Cathedral

The Nativity of Christ Cathedral of the Tiraspol and Dubossary Diocese stands as the spiritual center of Orthodox life throughout all of Pridnestrovie, occupying a prominent and deservedly celebrated place in the cityscape of the capital. Built between 1998 and 2000 to a design by Tiraspol architect P.G. Yablonsky, the cathedral draws its architectural inspiration from the church-building traditions of Ancient Rus, creating a building that feels both deeply rooted in history and genuinely contemporary.

The cathedral’s exterior is immediately striking: luxurious spherical domes crown the structure, while stained-glass arched windows allow beautiful colored light to filter into the interior spaces. The walls themselves display a particularly distinctive design, with the top of each wall shaped into a series of arches of varying sizes — a rhythmic and visually engaging detail that gives the cathedral its unmistakable silhouette and sets it apart from other religious buildings throughout the region.

Adjacent to the cathedral stands the parish house, housing a Sunday school, cathedral library and cells for clerics — completing a comprehensive religious and educational complex at the very heart of Tiraspol’s Orthodox community.
