Bender Fortress Tour from Chisinau

Bender Fortress has stood on the west bank of the Dniester since the 16th century, built by the Ottomans and fought over by nearly every power that has passed through this stretch of Moldova since — Russian, Turkish, Soviet. All eight towers are still standing, and it’s one of the best-preserved Ottoman-era fortifications in Eastern Europe. It’s an easy day trip from Chisinau, with or without the rest of Transnistria.

Getting there from Chisinau

Bender (Bendery) sits right at the Moldova–Transnistria administrative line, about an hour from Chisinau by car.
