Water Mill

The arrival of the Slobodka-Rybnitsa railroad in 1881 opened new possibilities for importing machinery from European countries, and it was this improved connectivity that made possible the construction of a water mill in Stroentsy village, designed by the innovative architect from Transylvania, Georgy Panteleevich Mazgan. Every mechanism within the mill was imported directly from Zurich, Switzerland, reflecting the high standards of engineering the builder sought for this remarkable structure.

In 1982, the mill underwent reconstruction to serve a new purpose as the Museum of Bread. The 19th-century building was subsequently restored once more, this time funded by M.V. Orlov, ensuring the continued preservation of this extraordinary piece of industrial heritage for future generations.

Today, the water mill stands as one of the principal attractions not only in Stroentsy but throughout the entire northern region of Pridnestrovie. The picturesque natural surroundings are thoughtfully complemented by carefully designed landscape architecture across the property, creating a harmonious setting where historic architecture and natural beauty enhance one another. Within the mill’s premises, visitors will find both a dedicated museum and the Old Mill restaurant-hotel complex — combining historical exploration with comfortable hospitality in this one remarkable location.
